Civil Construction & Production of Aggregates

Our own quarry in Cape Verde
In May 2009, we have founded Construções Verde Cabo Verde Limitada, in Cape Verde - a company dedicated to Civil Construction and Extraction & Production of Construction Aggregate, which is set to be a national pioneer in this area. Our project has been named ‘Quarry for Stone Transformation Unit’ (from the original in Portuguese ‘PEDREIRA UNIDADE DE TRANSFORMAÇÃO DE PEDRAS’).
Our quarry, occupying a total area of 78,000 Sq meters, is located in Aguada de Janela, municipality of Paúlin the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde.
Civil construction is a major employment sector in Cape Verde, as well as highly important for the country’s Economy. Construction aggregate or ‘inert material for construction’ is currently imported into Cape Verde, as the exploration of national quarries is virtually inexistent – in spite of this activity being highly promoted as one of the very top investment opportunities in the country.
Our quarry - summary
Total area of exploration = 78,000 Sq meters
Reserve at 75 meter quota = 873,600 cubic meters
Reserve at 70 meter quota = 702.047 cubic meters
Reserve at 65 meter quota = 311,439 cubic meters
Total reserve needed for exploration = 1,092,000 cubic meters of which 20% is sterile and/or unworthy material.
Civil construction
Besides producing construction aggregate, we shall be transforming the inert material into composite material in the near future.
We are also associated with skilful and competent builders, architects, plumbers and electricians in order to take on any kind of construction projects. Furthermore, our complete knowledge of the land and our strong ties with the local authorities can ease the building permission application process. Finally, as we speak Portuguese, English and Creole fluently, we believe that we are the ideal choice of civil construction team.
Main construction aggregate – to be “made in Cape Verde” BY US!
Mainly, we will be extracting and crushing stone and producing essential construction aggregate such as:
- Gravel
- Sand
- Crushed stone
- Slag
These are primarily used as components of composite material, such as concrete and asphalt concrete, as well as plaster. There is an ongoing study into the possibility of other material extraction, recycling, production and use.
Respecting the Environment, Health & Safety, always!
Our methodology and practice specifications are in full accordance with requirements stipulated by legislation, namely (in Portuguese) Decreto-Legislativo nº 14/97 of 1st June, and the Decreto-Lei nº 29/2006, of 6th March, and Decreto-Lei nº 6/2003 of 31st March – the first two decrees or acts demand any project to lessen negative impact whilst maximizing positive impact in the surrounding environment, whilst the third establishes the juridical regime for licensing quarries. We also adhere to the relevant legislation that establishes rules & guidelines for geologic preservation, and regulations for Health & Safety in quarries.
Our company had to submit a detailed Study of Environmental Impact (EIA) to the government for approval, before being dully licensed to start this activity.
Our project has to adhere to the following structure:
- Extraction activity
- Landscape recovery (as the exploration advances)
- Closing the quarry
- Hygiene and safety
- Implementation of environment management systems (i.e. recycling of used transmission and lubricating oils and filters; recycling of used tires; etc)
Our project will also adhere to a program which balances/reduces noise and fumes (plant & machinery, etc).
